Join us on May 20^th at Smith Cross­ing as we wel­come Adam Selz­er, author of the book ​“FLICKERING EMPIRE.” He’ll dis­cuss the very brief peri­od when Chica­go was the lead­ing city in film pro­duc­tion, fea­tur­ing very rare (and fun­ny!) films from the archives. Thomas Edi­son, Char­lie Chap­lin, Oscar Micheaux, and Orson Welles play major roles in this vivid illus­tra­tion of the rise and fall of the major Chica­go movie stu­dios in the mid-silent era/​p>
