Smith Crossing COVID-19 Precautions

Required Precautions

To protect our Smith Crossing family, residents and their visitors, employees and third-party caregivers are expected to adhere to our safety protocols designed to stop the spread of COVID-19.

On our campus, everyone is required to:

  • Wear a mask in all common areas, while interacting with each other and when traveling in a car with family and others
  • Observe six-foot social distancing at all gatherings, including indoor and outdoor events, in dining rooms and during individual encounters in common areas
  • Practice hand-hygiene throughout the day
  • Follow all guidelines regarding isolation and care when a test indicates a positive result for the virus
  • Quarantine for 14 days after visiting any State or Territory designated as a hot spot by the City of Chicago

Residents are encouraged to:

  • Be tested for COVID-19 to comply with the requirements published by the Illinois and Will County Departments of Public Health, based on a resident’s level of living and the status of Smith Crossing and region
  • Ask to be tested if they are concerned about their well-being
  • Schedule telehealth appointments and only leave Smith Crossing when medically necessary
  • Worship by watching televised services instead of attending a church
  • Not dine in restaurants
  • Not visit their family’s home

Staff members and third-party caregivers must:

  • Participate in testing for COVID-19 as mandated by the Illinois and Will County Departments of Public Health
  • Be screened at the beginning of and during each shift
  • Wear a face mask at all time
  • Wash their hands on a very regular basis, including before and after helping a resident
  • Practice social distancing except when caring for residents requires otherwise
  • Disinfect areas as assigned

Smith Crossing follows these and other practices published by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the Will County and Illinois Departments of Public Health.
