Ensuring ongoing care for residents of Smith Senior Living communities
Smith Senior Living plays a vital role in the welfare and well-being of seniors living in Chicago’s southwest neighborhoods and in the southwest sector of metropolitan Chicago. Our primary purpose is to enrich the lives of those we serve and to create an environment in which individuals thrive and make the most of every day.
As a not-for-profit organization, it is part of our mission to care for Smith Crossing and Smith Village residents who may have outlived their resources. Annually, this program requires some $2 million in funding and we rely on the generosity of donors and friends of our organization as well as various fundraising efforts.
How Emilie’s Fund began …
Washington and Jane Smith Communities (d/b/a Smith Senior Living, Smith Crossing and Smith Village), are rooted in a nearly 100-year tradition of serving and caring for seniors. Since opening in 1924, the organization has been the recipient of many generous donations—most notably from the estate of Emilie Jane Smith, whose donation of $1.74 million in 1929 helped to secure our future. Emilie’s Fund was named to honor this significant contribution. Gifts to Emilie’s Fund are an essential part of ensuring our ability to continue caring for the needs of area seniors well into the future.
Our charitable giving program includes:
- Major Gifts
- Endowment Gifts
- Planned Giving
